CHALLENGE
For countless girls in rural communities, access to menstrual pad is a monthly struggle. Our girls are forced to miss school or resort to unsafe alternatives simply because they cannot afford basic menstrual hygiene products.
PROPOSITION
We are proposing the creation of a Menstrual Pad Bank at the Bonnicare Foundation office, a dedicated space where girls from rural areas can freely access sanitary pads.
This initiative goes beyond charity, it’s an easy affordable access to a monthly need. By providing a consistent supply of menstrual pads, we can keep girls in school and improve their menstrual hygiene/health.
SIGNIFICANCE
This project will be more than just a supply chain of menstrual pads; it will be a safe haven where girls can learn about menstrual health and share their concerns, and gain the support they need to thrive. We aim to partner with local schools, brands, companies and health professionals to make sure that this initiative reaches those who need it the most.
The menstrual pad will only be given to girls who truly can’t afford to buy it on a monthly basis, we have designed a thoughtful, transparent, selection and distribution process that prioritizes fairness and accountability.
Profiling: We will pay special attention to those living in poverty and come from families where the provision of basic necessity is a challenge.
Careful Verification: We will ensure that only genuinely underprivileged girls are enrolled in the program*For the pilot stage. This rigorous process will prevent misuse of the service and avoid any instances of double collection.
Issuance of Personalized Collection Cards: Each verified girl will be issued a collection card. This card will serve as an identification tool and will track the frequency of visits to our Menstrual Pad Bank. Their collection card will be updated on every visit, ensuring fairness and preventing overuse by any one individual.
Scheduled Collection Days at Our Office: The dates will be communicated to the girls in advance, allowing for smooth and organized collection sessions. This model will eventually be replicated by our Community representatives in other communities as we grow and have access to more funding.
Ongoing Support and Accountability: We recognize that circumstances can change, If a girl’s situation improves, she may be removed from the program to make room for girls who need it more. We will involve community feedback, where trusted individuals can alert us to cases of need or any misuse of the resources.
A Day in the life of our pad distribution system
- An identification card will be created and given to all the selected girls in the pilot stage. The identification card will contain the basic information of the girl collecting the pad alongside a spot that will carry the passport of the girls.
- Our staff will crosscheck the girl’s name on our system, check through the passport on the card, after the verification, she will receive a pack of pads, after which the record will be ticked to indicate collection from our end for that specific month.
This process will continue to be improved upon.
Please support this new initiative. We are open to partnership and collaborations with menstrual pad brands, organizations, individuals, other NGOs and Brands willing to join us on this mission
